Purpose and classifications - Intervention - (Value) | Uses an intervention called Multi-dimensional Treatment Foster Care - Adolescents (MTFC-A), as an alternative to local authority residential care for those young people that meet the criteria. Within Multi-dimensional Treatment Foster Care, foster carers are trained to provide MTFC in order to help addressing children’s emotional and behavioural difficulties. The one-year MTFC programme includes encouraging the development of academic skills, setting boundaries, supporting the establishment of contact with pro-social peers and maintaining close supervision of the child. |

Notes - (Value) | Referral Route: Referrals to the project are received from the Placements team in Manchester Council. On receipt of a referral, the Programme Supervisor or social Worker will contact the key professionals in a young person’s life (including; Social worker, key residential worker, CAMHS). Once this information has been gathered, the Programme Supervisor will arrange to meet with the young person to assess their suitability for the programme (focussing on their ability to understand the model and their commitment to it. Once this assessment is completed, and seen as being positive, the referral is discussed with the potential carers and once they have given agreement for the placement a placement agreement meeting will be held. |
